The Cascades du Hérisson are certainly some of the most visited sights in Jura. With its source at 805 m altitude in the Région des Lacs, the Hérisson is a small river that stretches over 3 km. The circuit through the 31 cascades that begins at our Auberge enables one to enjoy the whole range of water acrobatics on a walk that lasts about 2h30mn. Nowadays thousands of visitors walk the circuit. Did you know that in the beginning of the 20th Century, many people settled on the banks of the river in order to take advantage of the hydropower generated by a turbulent yet constant flow of water ? Wheat-mills, sawmills, forges and nail factories were commonplace. |
